25 members of Stratheden Curling Club gathered in Auchtermuchty on Thursday  14th April for the 174th AGM, prize giving and a buffet supper.

Sandy Matthew, demitting President, thanked everyone for attending. He was sorry that he just failed to win the Thom Cup which went to Frank White and his rink in the last match of the season. He was pleased that the Club had won its matches in the Rippin Trophy and against Cambo, Abdie and Crawford Priory, though sadly the Silver Kettle stayed with Falkland.

Sandy Matthew thanked all Club curlers for playing throughout the year; the Committee for their support; Iain Keddie for his untiring work as Secretary and Dianne Matthew as Treasurer. The Club, with Abdie and Abdie Ladies had held an excellent Makkin Dinner in Abernethy. Three members of the Club had been made.

Frank White’s rink of Roy Lockhart, Martin McDevitt, Jamie Halford-Forbes and Forbes Catto, won the Thom Cup, the senior Club competition. The rink also won the Maltman Cup and came close in the Cycle Trophy.

Sandy Matthew won the Cycle Trophy with Joyce White, Roger Smith and Raymond Harding. Sandy also skipped rinks in wins against Cambo and Abdie.

Ewan Band skipped a rink in the Under and Over 60s match; and the won the Club pairs with Roy Lockhart.

There was joy and despair for Graeme Hannigan. His rink of Roy Lockhart, Raymond Harding, Dianne Matthew and Joan Ferguson, won the Rippin Trophy in the 24th playing of the Rippin Bonspiel with Abdie, Crawford Priory, Cambo, Falkland and Pitlessie Curling Clubs. He won the 2nd place Hamilton Bruce Medal in the Points. Graeme was also presented with a special trophy for being “grannied” in a match for the first time in 25 years of curling!

The Club won 8 matches out of 15 in the Lomond League and 5 wins out of 10 matches in the Cupar Province League.
